Given the location of Jammu and Kashmir, defense technologies are crucial to national security strategies, particularly with advancements in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, unmanned systems, and advanced materials manufacturing. IIT Jammu’s geographic location offers unique opportunities for developing, testing, and deploying technological interventions, leveraging existing collaborations with IIT Jammu and nearby defense establishments.
IIT Jammu has established a Center of Excellence (CoE) in Defense and Climate Technologies. A dedicated Center of Excellence is essential to drive innovation, research, and collaboration in defense technologies. The CoE focuses on advancing through cutting-edge research, which will strengthen national capacity and reduce the nation’s dependency on foreign technologies. IIT Jammu’s location is suitable for several key areas to test and upgrade to version.

IIT Jammu has partnered with several key government agencies, including the Ministry of Defense (MoD), Defense Research & Development Organization (DRDO), Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), and other corporate companies like Bharat Electronic Limted, Hindustan Aeronautics Limted, Larsen & Turbo Defense, Tata Advanced System Limted, and Mahindra Defense System, along with private and government investors to establish the venture funds and support. This partnership is essential to support the upcoming research park at IIT Jammu in the long run. The research park will not only be able to support and fund the startups in critical technologies but can also provide mentorship and classic research facilities to enhance technologies.
